SEBASTIAN IS A BIG WALKER!!

he took his first steps to Daddy today, right in front of Mommy (yay!). he will turn 10 months on the 29th (4 days from now)
i can't believe my baby walks :)

Our bad ol' dogs got out yesterday- tristan left the gate open and they thought that was a great opportunity for a walk! LOL
so it took a bunch of worrying and some drama to get them back, but they are home.
Sebastian is like inches away from walking. he stands and he acts like he's going to take a step, then he just sits down. he will be 10 months on wed...
He's also like monster baby.. he wears mostly 18 month, some 2 yr old clothes. yikes!!

so here's where we are in the foster/adopt process:
this sat we do an all day pride class, mon a CPR class and a health/safety inspection of our home. sept 11th we have a medications class, and then we get our homestudy done.
after our homestudy is approved we will hopefully soon get a referral. I am super excited :)

How to sew a mei tai-

I was approached by a lady at whole foods wanting to know how i sewed my carrier SO....

here are directions-

first buy 2 1/2 yards of jersey cotton one-way stretch fabric- not all fabrics are created equal, make sure it is a strong fabric.
buy 1/2 a yard of a nice heavier weight fabric- think denim
and 1/2 a yard fabric in a matching calico (light weight cotton)
here is a photo of the carrier-

Now, the straps are sized as follows-
long (top)straps are 2 1/2 yards long, 7 inches wide ( cut your piece 15 inches wide, fold in half and sew your seam with a 1/2 inch hem....
looks like this-

and then your bottom straps are 2 ft long, 3-4 inches wide.
sew all four straps on a 2(stitch size) zigzag.
Now for the body, look at the first picture to get the general shape- my carrier is sized as so-
bottom of body is 15 inches wide (not including seam allowance) and 20 inches tall.
the 20 inches includes the rounded infant head support. if you want a square Carrier it will be about 17 inches long.
when you are ready to sew it together pin your straps inside the two body pieces (identical shapes cut out of the matching fabrics). to sew the stars in you need to reinforce the seams..sew twice and then made a third rounded seam to really strengthen it, like so-

the boys single (well double ) handedly put together an ikea bed tent- with no help! SMART BOYS WORKING TOGETHER!

we went to our first class last night and they gave us this honking book. man its thick ..and full of cute "homework" like answer this- in what ways were you nurtured as a child...fun fun
and then they tell us about the OTHER classes, 12 more hours of hoops to jump through, besides the four hours next week and the full sat class..and then there is the health inspection, the fire inspection, the doctor clearances, the cpr classes, the home study and the endless amounts of paperwork.
it's definitely more complicated than birthing a baby! LOL

so me and Gabe are going to a play tonight..yes, a play! like grown ups....no kids!
i am grinning ear to ear right now :)

my day

well- we got signed up for "pride" classes this month- they are the state required training classes for foster parents. we are really doing it! after this comes the home study, then we get referred a child when one becomes available matching our criteria.
the boys are doing super awesome in their schooling this week. it's great having a sitter a few days a week, cause it gives me time to do curriculum planning.
here is a pict of sebastian "helping" daddy install a shelf.
