i just read this about the adoption tax credit!
> For 2010, the maximum credit is increased to $13,170 per eligible child.
This applies to all adoptions, special needs or not. In addition, the credit is
now refundable, meaning that families can actually receive the full tax credit
in the form of a refund, even if they owe zero taxes. The adoption tax credit
increase was scheduled to terminate at the end of 2010, but is now extended to
the end of 2011.

Wow, that's wonderful! I really wish we were in a position to adopt, I'd jump on it! I've looked and I think if we're ever able to, we'll probably adopt a child from Ethiopia. Seems to be the easiest and cheapest.
Thanks for this update!!! I was going to check on this, too and voila! You post it!
@ Katie -
Actually, there are a lot of agencies that give scholarships and grants to families wanting to adopt overseas. And these children aren't just from Ethiopia. And there's no such thing as easy when it comes to adopting.
I'm currently adopting internationally.
I have a friend who just got back from Ethiopia with her new daughter. What a cutie pie.
why don't more people adopt the kids without homes here in America? I have never understood this... My husband and I have always talked about adopting and plan to in the future, but all I ever read or hear about is foreign country adoptions...Seems kind of crappy to go thousands of miles away when there might be a child right in town that needs a home. Anyway, what is the main reason for this? Is it too hard to adopt here? I am seriously looking for an answer here ;o)
well i have adopted here- my ruby was adopted from foster care-i foster teens (who are teen moms-not looking to be adopted). i know MANY people who are or have adopted from the us foster care system-
the tax credit works for all adoptions, domestic and international-
I am posting about Reece's rainbow because these special needs children will be put into mental institutions at age 5- where they can never be adopted, and will die young deaths due to neglect-
being a foster kid sucks- i know having heard so many stories from my kids- but my kids i have fostered are alive, and really still many times better off than most any of the worlds "orphans". they have food , clothes and people who care about them.
adoption is never "easy" or even "easier" each kind is a different kind of hard.
i think that where ever God leads one to adopt- that is where they should adopt-
